God’s Country

Blog 315 – 06.10.2016

I have had the great good fortune to have been in each of the fifty states of the United States of America and thus far eleven other countries each and all have in some way impressed me as unique and wonderful. It tickles me that wherever I go the local people refer to their particular spot as “God’s Country” or by some similar term that lets the interloper, outlander, stranger, foteigner know that as the Texans say of their great state “They ought to thank their lucky stars that they are there.”

I believe it is all God’s country, property of the Universe and none of it more or less so. The story goes that the fly who had spent his entire life in a pickle jar said that it was the sweetest place on earth. And so most of us feel about the place where we were born, grew up, or where we have lived for some time.

This certainly is a beautiful blue ball we live on but the scientists say it is likely there are many more out there. I think it quite likely that the local population on those planets, too, figure their planet is the best and God’s one and only.

If any of those near neighbors, what are few light years in space, every come across this I would love to visit your planet and allow you to show me all its wonders. I have found one of the best ways to get close to people every where is to allow them to brag and show off their home town or country, God’s country.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
