Sometimes people say the stupidest thing. Today’s title is right up at the top of the list. It really upsets some of my legalistic Christian friends when I quote the verse where Jesus gave his disciples two rules that superseded (fulfilled) all of the rules and regulations laid out in the Law and the Prophets (Most of the Old Testament, the Jewish Bible):
“Love the LORD, your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. And love your neighbor as you love yourself.”
Or according to the David Simplified Version, the DSV) Love God. Love Yourself. Love everybody else. Oddly enough I don’t think the order even matters because you cannot really do one without doing the other two. Hold on, Quicksdraw, let me explain that remark. First God is One, all in all, everything there is, the whole enchilada. In Him/Her we live and move and have our being. Therefore to love anyone or anything is to love God, God is the whole or wholly God. I think they spelled that wrong in the verse about the angels singing Holy, Holy, Holy. Wholly is the correct spelling same pronunciation. If you love yourself you are loving God. If you love your neighbor, yep, still loving God. And, my friend to do either of those truly you are loving the God in you.
So what exactly are we saying when we stupidly say, “Nobody loves me.”? That we don’t love ourselves so we cannot believe anyone else could love us either. Sorry, that is not a real option. Why? Because God loves you, everybody who loves God loves you. Don’t you think you ought to get with the program and love yourself, God, and everybody else back? I thought you’d see the logic of this argument.
I am tired of arguing about “Freewill” so can we just say it? You and I have only the will of our Higher Self, yes you got me again, that is God. The only one who even pretends to resist this is sad little ego. And eventually even he will have to bow to God’s will.
My atheist friends have a problem with this and I understand for I was also one of you for a couple of decades till a rather sneaky Quantum Physicist disarmed my argument against believing in God, the only Higher Power, by asking me to just think of God as my higher, best self, you know just theoretically. Now after peaking behind the curtain to see Who God is I feel like the guy who placed an add for a new lover in the Pina Colada song when he rendezvoused with her at the bar and saw who his mystery date was he said, “Ah, it’s you!”
You love you there is absolutely no denying that eternal fact. This entire construct, matrix, adventure, production was designed by you and for you so you could discover again and again that you are loved, that you are loving, that you are lovely, that you are altogether lovely for You are Love. So quit you whining and get back to doing what you do best. That’s right – Loving, pick one they’ll all feel it. You’re that good at what you do.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
