Many of us think of ourselves as adverse or opposed to change but that is because many of the changes in our life are so slow and gradual that we do not realize we are always in the midst of change. If you have had the wonderful pleasure and at the same time frustrating ordeal of raising a child from a baby to adulthood you know how fast they change from a cooing, eating, pooping machines to much larger and even more demanding, costly and frustrating, groaning, eating, pooping machines. Seriously, they grow up so quickly and change from cocoon to butterfly before our tearful prideful eyes.
Change is as constant as it is inevitable. If you think you live in the same town you were born in you are only trying to deny how very much everything has changed around you. And despite all the kind remarks from family and friends that we haven’t changed at all over the years, we have.
Over the last six years I have traveled a lot with my work. I have lived and worked in Italy, Scotland, Arkansas, Michigan, Alaska, Wyoming, Colorado, Virginia, Indiana, and Illinois. Tomorrow my current work assignment is scheduled to end. It is time for a change and I look forward to it for I have come to enjoy seeing new places, meeting new people, hearing their stories and sharing mine. I marvel at how much we all have in common and that for all our believed or perceived differences we are still so much alike.
You don’t have to travel all over the world and country as I do to experience change. Pick up a book, change the channel, watch the one your current news channel says is too liberal or too conservative to watch. Simply open you eyes and mind to take in all the change that is taking place around you. Quit a habit, take up a new one. This is after all your life and maybe just maybe it is time for a change.
