A Picture Worth A Thousand Words

Blog 252 – 03.17.2015

The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words. I try to pick pictures that live up to that saying to post with my daily blogs. Quite often the picture inspires the blog. Other times I try to pick a picture that fits in some way or just something lovely or touching. We are many of us what they call “visual learners.” The ole slam from my boyhood, “What do you want me to do, draw you a picture?” Could most of the time be honestly answered, “Well, Yeah!”

Words are pictures too. A beloved friend of mine who loves words texted me the other day that she was feeling pensive. I am without bragging a some what educated and well read person and so I knew what she meant – that she was in a thoughtful perhaps a little sad mood. Sometimes ” paying too close attention” can make us feel a little sad. I try to stay positive and look for the gift in everything but sometimes even ole Sunshine gets a little weary with the foolishness and stupidity in this world.

I try not to judge others because I have acted foolish and stupid in my life and like most of us, admit it or not, have periodic relapses to foolishness and stupidity. I saw a cool picture on Facebook recently of two older ladies sitting on the stoop (that, my Southern friends, is a Yankee expression for “the front steps” – I should have been born a Yankee boy, I love the snow and cold so much.) Anyway, the caption on the picture of the laughing older ladies said, “When exactly are we supposed to know better? It hasn’t happened yet.”

Maybe it never does and there is just a whole lot of pretending going on. I find when I am more patient with others and myself I am less pensive, moody, sad. I find my mind is more cheerful and at peace. I think, accepting others and ourselves just as we are enables us to see the magnificent beings we all truly are, warts, foibles, seeming imperfections, and all.
