I have mention several times that the word Satan literally means, “The accuser of the brethren.” And far from the horrific red horned devil, almost equal with God, that he is portrayed Satan is actually little ego that whispering, lying, slanderer, pedagogue who seldom has anything nice to say about anyone even you. I have tried to expose some of his lies. Two big ones come to mind: “That you are separated from God, alone, and on your own.” and, “That there is a shortage, not enough to go around.”
I would like to write a bit about one of ego’s biggest lies, the one from which he derived his name, Satan. Fear is the opposite of Love. Fear is not real but created by ego to control you and if possible keep you coward and away from the knowledge of your true identity, your true self, your true power. He wants above all to have you mistrust your brothers and sister, your family. For ego is afraid you might discover in them your true heritage. Little ego pretends to have your best interests in mind but like the unscrupulous salesman he is, he would separate you from those who genuinely care about you.
I share a personal story to illustrate the point. Ego doesn’t like for me to tell this story because I am not the hero in it but the dupe. Some years ago I was quite unhappy with my life. I had gotten laid off from a good job that I really enjoyed, that paid well, and that I thought had good prospects for the future. After that I had several crappy jobs that had lasted for just a few months. I had finally landed one that was beginning to look like it might work into something when I fell victim to another of ego’s lies.
We have in us a desire for glory. Little ego has a lie, a counterfeit to tempt us with called grandeur. I was contacted by someone from a company called Equinox and told that if I invested a few thousand dollars in training and product that in a short while with minimum effort I would have people working beneath me making me rich. I borrowed money from my parents and went after the illusive prize. I bought into one of the oldest con games, the pyramid scheme. Where a few people at the top reap the rewards of the efforts of a great many whose real role is getting their friends to help them sign up others, to sign up their friends and on and on till the bubble bursts, the curtain rolls back, and the con is revealed.
I remember in the expensive so called training which was more indoctrination or programming that we were told that we should not trust our family because they would be jealous of our success and not want us to be better off than them. They would hold us back. After the founder of the enterprise was tried and found guilty of fraud and all his property seized by the court I learned this technique is used by cults and con men to separate you from those who truly care about you so they can separate you from your money and make you their slave.
Yes, Satan alias ego, is forever judging and condemning your brothers and trying to get you to question their motives. Love on the contrary not only “keeps no list of wrongs” but also, “hopes all things and believes all things.” In other words just won’t hear or believe bad stuff told on the one beloved.” The character Melanie Wilkes in the book and movie Gone With The Wind loved like that. When ask how she could invite Scarlet to her husband’s birthday party when everyone knew Scarlet was trying to steal her husband someone close to Melanie explained the Melanie just could not conceive of any evil in anyone she loved. Neither my friends could we if we stopped listening to the lies told on our brothers and sisters and inspired by nasty little ego. He can always find a listening ear for his gossip, innuendo, and just plain lies.
Refuse to believe the worst about your family and do your part to rebuild bridges, tear down fences and end all family feuds.
Jesus said, “If you are about to say your prayers and remember that you brother has something against you, stop what you are doing. Your prayers can wait. Go make it right with your brother. Then God will hear your prayers.”
Hey, it’s the Christmas season instead of a gift card or an expensive present or a even Midnight Mass how about each of us do our dead level best to end one family feud this Christmas.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
