Blog 172 – 11.27.15

I think the term for Back Friday comes from the many merchants that do such great sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving, the long time official start of the Christmas season, that they hope to go out of the red and into the black as far as sales profits are concerned.
Christmas is good for business.

Many people complain year after year about the commercialization of Christmas and yet the sales of manger scenes go up too and all the extra attention of doing for those less blessed. There is even more of an effort made by families to reach out to those less popular family members. For every act of kindness and giving that makes the news there are countless others that go unnoticed but by the recipients. I love Christmas and even the many years I claimed to be a Non-Believer I kept in my closet above my tie rack a small embroidered banner in Christmas colors that read, “I Believe.”

There is a line from the song Alfie that appealed a great deal to me during my Atheist phase, “Something even non-believers can believe in. I believe in love, Alfie.” I do believe in LOVE and God is Love and is more willing to rescue us from our silly self-destructive, ego-driven lives than we are to let Him. But He will win in the end for time, all eternity, is on His side.

Well, what did all of that have to do with Black Friday? Let us just say in the spirit of the greatest sales day of all that the God of all the Universe is prepared to make you an offer you cannot refuse. And He will not take “No” for an answer. And what a deal God offers – Love, Joy, Peace, and Even Glory. The best puny ego can offer is illusions – hate, unhappiness, war, and illusions of grandeur. This Black Friday make the deal of a lifetime. You will eventually. Why wait another moment.
