Wipe Your Feet

Blog 152 – 11.2.15

When we are out in the world we often step in mud or worse and get dirty shoes or feet. It is important to take a moment to wipe your feet before tracking in unwanted things into your home. I would like to make an analogy of that to other things that should not be welcome into our homes or those of our family and friends.

Someone very close to me has very little patience with other people’s dramas and negativity. I heard a preacher many years ago say that when anyone starts to gossip in your ear you should say, “Do my ears look like a garbage can to you? No dumping allowed.” Gossip or judging and condemning others is unkind to say the least, but there is a more deadly poison that is even more destructive and that is thinking and talking about what you don’t want and yes allowing others to bring things into your home that you do not want there. Home is where the heart is. Did you every notices that if you put two ear shapes together they form a heart? The ears are the door to your heart. Listen and when you hear something wait a moment till you hear that “inner voice” saying “yes, that is from me.” or “disregard that, it is not from me for you.”

Oh, I know some of you think I have really lost it. But to me it feels the exact opposite. I have found it, the Secret to being truly happy. I am in Love. I don’t mean the romantic one on one kind nice as that is. I mean In LOVE. I have, I think found the ole time religion, the kind that makes me love everybody and it did’nt start from loving Jesus or God, my Mommy and Daddy, my wife and children, or a girl friend but from coming to a place where I can honestly love myself just as I am worts and all. Selfish as that may sound loving me sets me free to truly love all of you way better than I could when I thought I was unworthy of love. And as Sweet Baby James sings, ” It doesn’t take any sacrifice…shower the people you love with love.” And remember to wipe your feet and watch your words. Think and speak about what you want not what you don’t want. We create the world around us by what we think and say. Be no one’s door mat or garbage can not even your own. You are a shining star and were mean to shine and brightly.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
