I Got My Ride

Blog 146 – 10-23-15

A few weeks ago in a blog entitled A Job Worth Doing I told the story of a father/son team that restored a classic Mustang. I concluded the article saying that I hoped to one day get to go for a ride in that hot car. I got my wish. I got my ride.

I met Jack, the younger of the dynamic-duo responsible for bringing this beautiful automobile back to life. The dad had promised me a ride the weekend before but the ride was called on account of rain. This baby doesn’t leave the garage in foul weather and rightfully so. A honey like her deserves to only ride on clean streets and beneath sunny blue skies. They make regular cars and pick-ups for braving the elements.

My postponed dream only made an even sweeter one come true. I got to meet Jack and to be driven for one of the most memorable rides of my life. Lap belts, bucket seats, floor shifter, the proud purr of a well tuned machine, sitting next to a young god in his proud chariot and when Jack punched her briefly and sat me back in my seat I was sixteen again – a young god myself with all of life before me. Thanks, Jack, if you ever decide Engineering is not your cup of tea you could make a comfortable living, I am sure, charging baby-boomers for a spin in your fiery red Time Machine called Mustang. I makes me smile just to think of that wonder ride.

You friend, fellow traveler, and lover of Mustangs,
David White
