I am a great fan of The Miinions, the love able if clumsy characters featured in two Dispicable Me movies and a movie of their own this passed summer. While my daughter was still living I visited her in her beloved Virginia and there spent an afternoon in the home of her cousin Kristin. The regal and magnificent Kristin referred to her friends, employees, and house guests as her minions. The foreman on the pipeline construction crew I inspect, on my day job, calls his workers his minions. What are minions and who are your minions?
Many people believe they can find all the answers to life’s questions in the Bible. I know longer think that but there is a lot of good stuff there. Some not so good. A lot of the people who worship The Book as God’s one and only holy word have never even read it all. It is a great read with some really wacky stories especially in the Old Testament.
Anyway, I get off track, I had a verse come to mind that seemed to answer the above question: “He maketh his angels ministering spirits to do his will.” So according to that the Angels are God’s minions and we too in a sense. I repeat here some very important words I heard in a song once, “There ain’t no good guys. There ain’t no bad guys. There’s only you and me and we just disagree.” Pharaoh was not a bad guy, if anybody looks like a “bad guy” in the Exodus story it is God who killed the first born of all the Egyptians. King Herod in the New Testament according to one account questioned the three wise guys looking for the baby Messiah about the time they first saw his star in the sky so he could kill all the baby boys about that age or younger and eliminate the competition. The Exodus Pharaoh’s dad had done the same thing trying to kill another deliverer, Moses. It was tough being a baby in those days especially first born children. Those two “bad” kings and even Judas were God’s minions.
We, with our training in Western Dualism have a tendency to label everything and everyone as good or bad. But, we are all minions of the Universe, experiencing the whole and acting out every possible scenario. Often we are tempted to think life is happening to us but one day each of us will realize that somewhere beyond space and time we chose this particular adventure and how we populate this dream and navigate through it is by our thoughts, words, and actions. In that order and our thoughts really do become things. And that we, like the Creator in Genesis speak everything into being by our words. Our words and actions stem from our thoughts. They are our minions doing the will of our mind.
Think happy thoughts, think beautiful, fun thoughts and see the world around you change. Take charge of your minions to create a better world for yourself, the Universe, and everyone.
You friend, fellow traveler, fan, and minion,
David White
I knew you had something in mind for those little minions it’s so easy to see your brain just keeps rolling on. What a great mind that you can keep writing on anything that you say or do. You have become a dear friend and I’m so proud of you.
