Milestones

Blog 101 – 8.24.15

Today is an important milestone for me. Today I am posting/publishing my 101st blog. Less than four months ago I began my blog: theencouragingword.co and barely two months in one of my readers called me a “prolific” writer. The dictionary defines prolific as: “Producing in large quantities or with great frequency; highly productive: a prolific writer.” I was grateful for the encouraging comment. But I think “windy” is the word most of my friends would use, not prolific.

Windy was one of the several nicknames my father picked up in his seventy-three year adventure in Time and Space. He produced a large quantity of entertaining stories that he told frequently. So frequently that many of us who heard them could correct him when he left something out.  Though my daddy met the definition for a prolific story teller his nickname was still Windy, not Prolific.

Milestones are important to travelers as they allow us to measure our progress along our journey. I am sure without thinking very hard you can remember several milestones in your life: Your first love, your first car, your first child and then others. For many the first time they ever flew or traveled out of the city, state, or country they were born in was an important milestone.

I have a habit of signing off my blogs with “Your friend and fellow traveler” because I think we are all of us on a journey through this Time and Space adventure. Some of us journey for longer and some of us see a great deal more of the beautiful blue ball we live on but all of our journeys have a beginning and a final destination. There is much speculation about both. Someday we will know even as we are known and guessing will be over but for now I say enjoy your journey.

The milestone of one hundred blogs is just a small step toward my greater goal of ten thousand blogs. And what do either of those goals matter if few read them. So my overarching goal is to find ways to write better more entertaining, more thought provoking, more encouraging words so that when they are read an ever growing number will want to read me again and again and recommend me to their friends.

The responsibility for making theencouragingword.co worth reading is all mine. From time to time give me a look and tell me how I’m doing. But by all means enjoy your own journey and pause to celebrate your own milestones.

Your friend and fellow traveler, happy to pass a particular milestone on my journey with you,
David White
