In keeping with the article I posted yesterday I would like to think a bit more about choice and the freedom to choose. What would you say if I told you that you chose this lifetime, that everything that has happened to you, is happening, or has yet to happen is exactly what you have chosen or will choose? You might say, “You have really lost it this time, Davy boy?” But before you do ask yourself, “If I did not choose this, who did and why?”
When we finally get tired of playing the victim, of blaming everything that is happening on someone or something else it slowly starts to dawn on us that there is really no one else responsible but número uno. And I used lower case on purpose because we cannot even blame God for where we are or what we are going through.
I think one of the best word pictures of our loving and infinite source, our father, God, or the Universe is to be found in Jesus parable of the Prodigal Son. The dad has two sons. The younger wants his share of the inheritance early so he can go enjoy life on his own terms and dad lets him have it. Love lets us choose. The boy blows all his funds having fun with “riotous living” and ends up having to get a job feeding pigs and even then not having enough money to feed himself he considers eating the slop the pigs eat. But then he comes to himself the story says. He remembers who he is, who his father is and he heads home. Ready to confess what an ass (and I mean stubborn mule) he has been. He thinks (wrongly) I don’t deserve to be my father’s son anymore. I will ask him if I can be one of his hired servants.
But look closely at the dad, God, in the story. He sees his boy coming from afar. He’s been watching, waiting for his boy to come home. The boy starts his practiced spiel, relates how bad he screwed up and how he does not deserve to be his daddy’s son any longer. But wait a minute, dad isn’t hearing a word of it. Get a robe, get a ring, kill the fatted calf, let’s party, my boy is home. The boy went away to party but daddy had the party waiting for him when he came to himself and remembered who and Whose he was.
I think we chose this life and all its twists and turns to learn some valuable lessons most important of which is that we have been and are always loved by our loving and infinite source no matter where we are in our adventure in time and space or what role we choose to play.
We get to choose fun, travel, and adventure, or misery, agony, and hardship. This world is what you think and say. Choose your thoughts and words wisely to maximize you joy as you journey.

David, Thank you for a better understanding of Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son. I’ve never looked at it quite this way. Now I realize what it means. No matter if we do ‘stray’, our Heavenly Father will always welcome us back home with open arms. Thank God for His LOVE and FORGIVENESS. Thank you for sharing this.
