An Attitude Of Gratitude

Blog 30 – 5.18.15

The Secret, The Law of Attraction, The Power of Positive Thinking, and The Abundant Life are all synonymous terms for the developing and maintaining of an attitude of gratitude. I believe that we create our reality by the thoughts we think and the words we say.

As a child and young man I repeatedly exposed myself to the words of the Bible, spoken, read, and sung. I think those words have often been misapplied, I don’t say misinterpreted because, I now think words have many shades of meaning all of which can and will lead us to a better understanding. These words from my youth come to me, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable…”

There in is the secret to a full and happy life – our words, our thoughts. Positive self talk is so important to a healthy perspective. I have been guilty in the past of making a silly or careless mistake and hearing my own voice say, “Stupid or Dummy.” I think most of us can agree you should never say such things to a child for children believe everything they are told. Our subconscious is like a child. When it hears us say, “I am so stupid.” or “I can’t.” or even weasel words like, “I’ll try.” which really mean I don’t think I can but I’ll make some half-hearted effort just to prove to myself that I can’t, it believes our words. The truth is what we should say to ourselves over and over, “I can do all things” because of Who and Whose I am. Or if you prefer a secular quote, “I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman (or man). I can do anything.”

We are like magnets we draw into our lives what our hearts and minds dwell on. And we like God in Genesis speak into being the world around us. That my friends in a nutshell is the law of attraction. The signal or vibration you send out is what comes back to you. Your prayers are always answered according to your faith. If you believe in and are always thinking and speaking in terms of Murphy’s Law, “If any thing can go wrong, it will go wrong at the most inappropriate time.” Or the short version, “Poop Happens” ( that’s the G Rated version). If you expect the worse, guess what, that’s what you get. Every thought and every word is an arrow shot out into the universe and it returns to us according to our faith, our attitude. What is your attitude, your mantra, your take on life?

Some time ago the following words came to me and I repeat them aloud often as a mantra, as a fervent prayer:

I am so grateful that everything I could ever want or need is already
mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right time
from my loving and infinite source.

I choose to see beauty, love, and abundance all around me and as a poplar song some years back said, “I’m doing alright, making good grades. The future’s so bright I got to wear shades.” Or for you older songsters try this lyric, “When I’m tired and I can’t sleep. I count my blessings instead of sheep. And I fall asleep counting my blessings.” Sweet dreams.
